The key to a sculpted midsection is using smart and effective stabilizing moves. But if your body fat is too high, it won’t matter how wisely you work your abs?they won’t show. That’s why you need to add those moves to a full-body strength and cardio routine that will boost your metabolism, blast fat, and finally uncover those abs you’ve been working so hard to develop.

And while the exercises can be thrown into your workout at random, that tactic will get you just a fraction of their benefits. For full value, work on progression.

Here’s how it works: After a 10 minute dynamic warm-up, do the first two moves as instructed, then finish with a total-body workout. Do this three times a week on nonconsecutive days for two weeks, then go to the next two moves. Repeat the pattern over eight weeks until you’ve done all eight moves.

The best part? With this easy printable list, you can get your fitness expert-certified sweat on for free. Learn more about the workout or get the printable version now.

Everyone has had an experience like this one: You’re running late for an important meeting, frantically tearing apart the house on a desperate search for the car keys you just put down…somewhere. Or at the other extreme, you spent weeks freaking out over an upcoming presentation only to deliver all the key points with Oscar-accepting eloquence when the day arrives.

So what is it that makes a person either go completely blank or perform brilliantly on simple tasks involving memory when feeling stressed?

The answer is complicated, and the best doctors out there are finally teasing out some of the bigger mysteries behind how that three-pound mass of electrochemical soup remembers, or forgets, where the damn keys are. An old adage says a little stress is good for memory, and a lot is bad—but it turns out to be true only for men. New research suggests that gender matters when it comes to memory and stress, whether that stress is acute, chronic, or traumatic.

Even if you love your job, spending 40-plus hours at a desk every week can sometimes lead to more than just a headache; it can also be a pain in the neck, shoulders, back, feet, and eyes. Being chained to your desk starves your extremities of blood, oxygen, and other fluids, resulting in tight muscles and stiff joints. But before reaching for the industrial-size bottle of ibuprofen, try these poses from Karin Wiedemann, yoga instructor and director of Urban Yoga in Washington, D.C. She suggests spending 3 minutes every 2 hours doing the following moves to relieve some tension.

The pain: Wrists and hands

The cause: “Typing is a very repetitive motion, and we do it for hours,” Wiedemann says. On top of that, we hold our hands in a very tense position, so the muscles get stiff and blood doesn’t circulate as well (as evidenced by how chilly your hands can get even in summer.)

When you want to win a race or transform your physique, slow and steady won’t do the trick. Sure, even-paced sessions on the elliptical or treadmill can strengthen your ticker and help you let off steam. But those workouts won’t necessarily make it easier to zip up your skinny jeans or smoke the competition at your next 5-K.

While the logic behind "the more miles I log, the more weight I’ll lose or the faster I’ll get" may seem sound, there’s a sneaky loophole most people don’t consider. Your body is a master adapter. When it gets used to a routine, it becomes more efficient, so it uses less energy. Translation: You burn fewer calories and your gains in speed and endurance level off.

"When you first start exercising, you challenge your body and it responds," says Janet Hamilton, a running coach and registered clinical exercise physiologist in Atlanta. "If you want to continue to see results, you periodically need to push your body outside its comfort zone."
